Expertise in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) drives our clinical psychology services, which focus on pediatric and adult treatment of ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, specific phobias, depression, and other behavioral health challenges.

CBT is a highly researched and vigorously supported type of therapy that is effective for a variety of psychological problems. As its name implies, CBT explores and changes ways of thinking and acting. It requires you to be actively involved in learning and practicing strategies.

CBT evolved from observations about the complex relationships between thoughts and behaviors and how each affects the other.

Basic principles of CBT and Mindfulness-Based CBT

  • Thoughts affect behavior.
  • Thoughts can be monitored and changed.
  • Actions or behaviors can be monitored and changed.
  • Emotions are strongly attached to language; paying attention to language can result in changes in emotion.
  • Meditiation and similar practices help to train awareness and acceptance.

CBT is an action-oriented partnership between you and your therapist. You will set goals, explore and test ways to reach your goals, and put strategies into action to create the change you are after. It requires daily practice and application; your commitment is essential.
